Fond farewell to Tony

Hiflex-Europe say farewell to a loyal worker who is leaving after nearly 50 years.

Tony Williams, 64, started working for Argus Fluid Handling on December 31, 1962, and apart from a five-month break, he has worked there ever since.

His work at the company, which makes hydraulic equipment, began in the transport section and he fondly remembers using a trade bicycle to transport parts from the factory in Telford Road.

He says he has seen the company develop over the years and he was involved with the purchasing of the first computerised machine.

“When I first started it was very longwinded, now it’s very user-friendly so some of the skills are not required,” he said.

“I like all aspects of it really. I enjoyed my involvement with quoting for the job then seeing the parts made and going out of the door.

“It’s the people that work here that I’ll miss most though; they make it a nice place to work.”

Mr Williams retired on Thursday and he is looking forward to having more time to play golf
